What are Dermal Fillers?

As people grow older, their skin naturally begins to lose some of its fullness and elasticity. This can result in fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that add volume and definition to areas of the face affected by aging, giving the people that receive them younger, healthier-looking skin. While these products can be made from a variety of different substances, all of the dermal fillers offered at River Region Dermatology and Laser are hyaluronic acid-based. Each dermal filler injection session usually only takes no more than 30 minutes to complete and involves little to no downtime. Because dermal fillers only stay in the body for a certain amount of time, additional injections are needed periodically to maintain any changes.

At River Region Dermatology and Laser, we’re proud to offer three of the most popular dermal fillers on the market today: JUVEDERM®, Restylane®, and BELOTERO BALANCE®.

JUVEDERM®

JUVEDERM® is one of most popular smooth-consistency, hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers available today. FDA-approved for cosmetic use in 2006, JUVEDERM® is an excellent option for patients interested in correcting:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds

This product is indicated with lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, that drastically reduces the amount of pain felt during treatment. Each injection session brings patients results that last between 6-12 months.

Restylane®

This hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler is sold in more than 65 countries, and can be used to correct several different types of moderate to severe facial wrinkles. Restylane® can also add volume to thin lips or sunken, flat cheeks. The results of each Restylane® injection session last anywhere between 4-6 months.

BELOTERO BALANCE®

BELOTERO BALANCE® is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that is created using a proprietary Cohesive Polydensified Matrix (CPM) process. This allows BELOTERO BALANCE® to integrate completely into the skin’s tissue, adding natural looking volume and smoothness to the face. Because it has a slightly thinner consistency than most dermal fillers, it is particularly well-suited for small, etched in lines and wrinkles. The results of this treatment usually last for six months or more.
